An elastic sling consists of a knitted jersey fabric. We use 100% organic cotton or a blend with wool or silk. Our fabrics are made according to GOTS in the Swabian Alb, they are so-called hybrid slings because they are not only particularly suitable for very small and light babies, but also hold toddlers safely with several layers, they can be used from birth.
Our Jersey Sling is particularly suitable for carrying delicate and lightweight babies and is also suitable for light newborns or babies with temporary blockages. Due to the very soft and elastic fabric we use at DIDYMOS, the little ones can snuggle up warm and soft in the cotton or cotton blended carrier and feel safe and secure, a bit gentler than our buckle carriers like our DidyGo and DidyKlick.
Elastic baby wrap slings can be used from birth onwards. They are especially suitable for premature babies or very small and light babies. All in all, our jersey slings can carry a maximum weight of 12 kg and are therefore considerably longer like baby wrap slings, which is why they are also called hybrid slings.
One thing first: for us at DIDYMOS, the ideal sling for a long period of wearing is the long woven sling, because it offers countless variations for tying and grows with the demands of your baby. The buckle carriers like DidyKlicks have their uses, too. The knitted jersey sling, on the other hand, is very practical for many new parents and is pleasantly soft, especially at the beginning of your baby’s life. For example, it can be easily pre-tied and thus facilitates quick tying – even without babywearing expertise.
Our DIDYMOS slings made of jersey fabric are stretchier than woven baby wrap slings – the name alone tells you that. One advantage of elastic slings is that they are easy to put on and, like the DidyKlick, are particularly suitable for beginners. The elastic sling is pre-tied without your baby and the baby is then placed in when you’re ready. If necessary, the child can be taken out again quickly and easily – the sling remains tied waiting for your baby again. This is certainly a strong argument for all mums and dads who are still unsure how to handle a sling.
Elastic knitted slings can generally be subjected to less stress and can therefore be used for a shorter period of time than woven slings. For our elastic slings from DIDYMOS we recommend a weight of up to 12 kg. The reason: the heavier your baby is, the more the elastic material will yield. Woven baby slings, on the other hand, can be used for longer. We also recommend an elastic sling to parents who already know that they will want to change to a baby carrier, like the DidyKlick, later.
